Maine Requirement Details for Real Estate Continuing Education

Continuing Education and License Renewal Date: Every two years

Hours Required By The State: 21 hours

  • 3 core hours
  • 18 elective hours

Please Note: there are separate core courses for associate brokers/brokers and designated brokers:  

  • Associate Brokers and Brokers need to take the Core Course for Brokers and Associate Brokers - 2
  • Designated brokers need to complete the Core Course for Designated Brokers - 2 

Effective April 1, 2019 the Real Estate Commission core course requirement is dependent upon your license type as follows:

Designated Brokers: “Core Course for Designated Brokers – 3

Brokers and Associate Brokers: Core Course for Brokers and Associate Brokers – 3

The applicable course is required if: 

  • your license expiration date is on or after April 1, 2019.
  • your license has expired and you renew on or after April 1, 2019.
  • you activate a license on or after April 1, 2019.

Licensees with a license expiration date prior to April 1, 2019, who renew prior to April 1, 2019,  may fulfill their core course requirement with either “Core Course for Designated Brokers – 2”  or “Core Course for Brokers and Associate Brokers –2 ” (depending on your license type) or the core course appropriate for the license type as noted above.

The CE Shop does not currently offer the Core Course for Designated Brokers - 3.  It will be available in early 2019.

The CE Shop's Offering: 21 hours

Reporting: The state does not have schools report CE hours.

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course but are generally one year after order date. Each course has an individual expiration date which is listed in your account.

Final Exams: Final exams must be passed with at least an 85% and may be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass. 

Certificates: Upon completion of the course, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic Certificate of Completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies. Please refer to your license renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate of Completion with your license renewal request. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date of your Certificate of Completion will reflect this.
